This Blood Group Is Thought To Be The Rarest In The World Due To Its Distinctive Features

Most people are aware that there are four different blood types: A, B, AB, and O. They might be good or bad. However, are you aware that a very small number of individuals have another uncommon blood type that is very difficult to identify? Indeed, you are correct; the Bombay blood group is responsible. Let’s look at it now.

This uncommon blood type was discussed by Dr. Meenu Bajpai of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Delhi. This unique blood type, according to her, is found in just 0.0004% of the global population. In India, just one person in every 10,000 is descended from Bombay. It is sometimes referred to as the uncommon ABO blood group or the HH blood type. But in Bombay in 1952, Dr. YM Bhende discovered this blood type.

The Bombay blood group’s specialty is:

Every human’s red blood cell contains sugar molecules. A person’s blood type is determined by these sugar molecules. On the other hand, blood cells belonging to the Bombay blood type do not generate any sugar molecules. They are not related to any blood type as a result. Antibodies A, B, and H are present in the plasma of people with this blood type.

People of this blood type have perfectly regular lives despite having an uncommon blood group. They don’t experience any bodily issues. It is commonly observed that individuals with close family relatives are the only ones with the Bombay blood type. In Bombay, there will only be 0.01% of individuals possessing this trait. The child’s blood type may also be HH if both parents have Bombay blood.

Who may one donate blood to, and who can one get blood from?

This blood group restricts the donor to only other members of the Bombay blood group. As a result, blood donors with this blood type are often kept in reserve since it is very uncommon and might be challenging to locate donors in an emergency. A patient with the Bombay blood group may not survive if their blood is transfused with any other group.

Blood type is important.

People should be aware of their blood type since it may have a significant impact on how they are treated in an emergency or during surgery, particularly if they have Bombay blood. Red blood cells may be tested for the presence of A, B, and H antigens using blood type. This makes it possible for medical professionals to treat patients correctly.
