This China six-star hotel is now a housing complex

The Regent International Hotel in China has become well-known for its astronomically high density of people, which is sometimes compared to that of a small town. While the exact number of residents inside its gates is still up for question, numerous estimates have suggested numbers ranging from more than 20,000 to almost 30,000 people.

This structure, which was once intended to be an opulent six-star hotel, has experienced an amazing makeover. It is located in the busy Qianjiang Century City, Hangzhou’s core business center. With its magnificent hotel rooms transformed into upscale residential units, it now functions as a vast residential complex.

Numerous inhabitants of Hang Piao now call the massive 36-story, 206-meter Regent International Hotel their home. This amazing building provides a wide range of services and enterprises, making it completely self-sufficient.

One may discover a large food court, swimming pools, barbershops, nail salons, supermarkets, and even internet cafés within of its roomy bounds.

The architect of the Singapore Sands Hotel, the second seven-star hotel in the world, Alicia Loo, is credited with creating the structure’s architecture. The 2013-opened Regent International Hotel quickly established itself as a landmark in Hangzhou.

According to reports, the bulk of the population consists of young professionals, recent graduates, or students about to graduate. In addition, the building draws youthful influencers, online personalities, and small-time entrepreneurs who have settled into its distinctive flats.

This six-star hotel, which was originally built across a sizable 260,000 square meters, had roomy accommodations that were intended as lofts or duplex flats and ranged in size from 74 to 222 square meters. To increase rental revenue, landlords converted these apartments into smaller rooms as it evolved into a residential complex. As a result, the initial plan underwent considerable revisions, with the bigger units being split into eight rooms while the smaller units, which were formerly 90 square meters, are now at least six smaller rooms.
