Through a bone marrow transplant, a 2-year-old in the UK saves her older sister from rare blood cancer

The bone marrow of the girl’s small sister helped to rescue her from a rare blood malignancy. Ruby Leaning was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia after she fainted on the school playground at the age of six. Mabel, her two-year-old sister, provided bone marrow for the transplant and was an ideal donor.

Ruby was pronounced cancer-free two years later, and she is now a happy and healthy ten-year-old who likes dance, swimming, and piano lessons. “She had stem cell treatment and was given the stem cells from her little sister Mabel because she was a perfect match,” her 56-year-old grandma Amanda Fawcett said.

“We were astonished that she was a match donor, even though we hadn’t anticipated this and couldn’t believe our good fortune.” It was amazing, and we were really appreciative. She said, “Mabel’s therapy enabled her to enter remission. “When Ruby gets older, Mabel will make sure she pays her back.” She is going to beg to use Ruby’s shoes for a loan. It will be a lot of fun,” she said.

Speaking during a fundraiser for PACT (Parents Association for Children with Tumors and Leukemia), the family from Grimsby, Lincoln, England, describes how the organization supported them throughout their hospital stay. Nicola Brown, a PACT caseworker, called supporting Ruby throughout her cancer journey a “true joy.” The National Autistic Society and PACT are going to host another benefit thanks to Amanda and her family and friends, Nicola added.

We are delighted to have been selected as one of their charities, and we eagerly anticipate whatever exciting events they have planned to help both organizations earn funds. He said, “They are a very amazing family, and it has been a joy to help them through their experience with pediatric cancer.

On May 10, Amanda will be holding a fundraising event at the Hainton Club in Grimsby, Lincoln, to benefit the charity and the National Autistic Society. Moreover, donations are accepted on the family’s Just Giving website.
