The Highest Alcohol Consumption Per Capita Is Found In This European Nation

Many European nations are well-known around the globe for their superior booze. Today, we’ll discuss about the Czech Republic, one of these Central European nations. Only over 1.5 crore people live there, spread out across 78,871 sq km. According to statistics, individuals in this country prefer consuming alcohol over soft drinks and other beverages.

The world’s greatest per capita alcohol consumption is found in the Czech Republic. Each individual drinks 210.4 liters of alcohol yearly on average. According to a CNBC survey, beer is the beverage of choice for the Czechs, accounting for 83% of consumption, followed by wine at 10%.

Around 9,00,000 people, or nearly one-tenth of adults in the Czech Republic, drink alcohol every day, according to a research by Prague Morning. In actuality, almost 1.5 million individuals have risky drinking habits.

The Czech Republic continues to keep the top spot as the greatest alcohol consumer despite a drop in consumption of nearly 8% over the previous six years. After 23 people died from alcohol poisoning in September 2022, the nation made international news when the government enacted a ban on the shipment of strong liquor to the European Union.

As the fatalities were ascribed to illegally made vodka and rum, according to Reuters, this occurred soon after a restriction was placed on the sale of hard liquor in shops and bars.

Ireland, which ranks second on the list and is well-known for its drinking and bar culture, consumes 195.6 liters of alcohol per person annually. Estonia comes in second, where the typical individual consumes 185.5 liters of alcohol yearly.

The average amount of alcohol consumed per person in the US is 29.3 litres. The only nation from North or South America to make the top 10 is the one with the largest economy in the world, according to a CNBC analysis.
