When the government releases the original Preamble to the Indian Constitution, the internet responds

India celebrates Republic Day, a momentous event commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, on January 26 of each year. The Government of India Act 1935 was superseded by the Constitution on this momentous day in history, thereby renaming the Dominion of India as the Republic of India. Today marks the 75th Republic Day of the country, and in a historic move, the government of India shared a copy of the original Preamble to the Constitution, highlighting how modern India adheres to its founding ideals.

The Government of India, represented via MyGov, encouraged people to reexamine the foundations of their country’s government in an Instagram post. The message on the post says, “Let’s take a look back at our Constitution’s original Preamble as we commemorate 75 years of the Republic of India. To what extent do these core values align with New India? Check it out to go on a historical tour and see how India has changed while maintaining its cultural identity.”

The original Preamble is shown in the first picture to go along with the message, while other images show the government’s accomplishments and current projects.

Just a few hours after it was posted to Instagram, the photo has received a great deal of attention, with over 25,000 likes and a ton of comments from interested public members.

One person said, “This post [fire emoticon]!” in the comments. Another person said, “Perfect.”

“Regarding border area development, true,” said a third commenter in reference to certain government initiatives, while a fourth commenter exclaimed with enthusiasm, “Now, this is the real thing.”
