Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt has been named an ICC ambassador for the T20 World Cup in 2024

Usain Bolt, a legendary sprinter from Jamaica, has been named by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the ambassador for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies from June 1 to June 29, 2024.

Bolt’s appointment as an ambassador highlights his allure on a worldwide scale and his outstanding sporting accomplishments, which make him the perfect personification of the grandeur of the 2018 T20 World Cup.

His unmatched success—which included the unprecedented “Triple-Triple” achievement at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games—has solidified his place in sports history as a legend that knows no bounds.

The Olympic champion first gained notoriety in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when he set world records in the 100-, 200-, and 4×100-meter relay events. Bolt now owns world records in the 200-meter, 400-meter, and 4×100-meter relay events, with astounding times of 19.19, 36.84, and 9.58 seconds, respectively.

Bolt will be instrumental in marketing the event in his capacity as ambassador, beginning with a cameo in the official anthem music video with well-known musicians Sean Paul and Kes. In order to increase cricket’s popularity in the US, he will also attend fan-focused events and T20 World Cup matches in the West Indies.

Bolt emphasized his excitement for the new position by saying, “I’m excited to be an ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. I have always had a particular place in my heart for cricket since it is a sport that is prevalent in the Caribbean. I am excited to support the worldwide expansion of cricket by going to West Indies matches during the World Cup.

Bolt underlined the importance of growing cricket’s presence in the US and mentioned how it may affect the sport’s participation in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, which is the biggest sports market in the world.

“Getting cricket into the US is significant for cricket, even though I will definitely be rooting for the West Indies during the World Cup. The world’s largest sports market exists there, and the excitement we will bring to the T20 World Cup presents a significant possibility for cricket to be included in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles,” the eight-time Olympic Gold Medallist said.

“Usain Bolt is a global icon, and we are delighted to have him as an Ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 to engage with a new generation of fans,” said ICC CEO Geoff Allardice in a statement applauding Bolt’s nomination. His vibrant personality and unmatched accomplishments make him the perfect choice for this position, which will bring an exciting new element to the World Cup.”

Bolt’s participation means that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be an incredible show that provides spectators with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The first match of the tournament takes place on Saturday, June 1, at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas, Texas, between co-hosts USA and Canada.
