BIHAR

On June 23, the Bihar Congress will provide a historic welcome to Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi will get a “historic” welcome from the Bihar Congress when he arrives there later this week, his first trip there since becoming well-known for his “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” according to the state party’s president Akhilesh Prasad Singh.

Speaking to reporters, Singh revealed that before attending the gathering of opposition leaders called by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Gandhi will be joined by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary in-charge of the organisation K C Venugopal. They will also stop at Sadaqat Ashram, the headquarters of the BPCC.

Gandhi will travel directly from the airport to Sadaqat Ashram and receive a ceremonial greeting along the way. Since he is visiting Bihar for the first time since his Bharat Jodo Yatra, it is a significant event for us, according to the leader of the Bihar Congress.

Gandhi will spend an hour at Sadaqat Ashram, where “a huge marquee, spread across 70,000 square feet” was being set up for the event, according to him.

He will speak to the party’s workers before departing for the meeting with Kharge and Venugopal, the man added.

The Congress leader responded to a query from reporters on the meeting’s location, which has not yet been disclosed, by saying, “this is a question that should be put to the Bihar chief minister. However, from what I understand, it will take place in his official house.

He made fun of allegations that Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress leader and chief minister of West Bengal, was upset over a potential alliance between the Congress and the CPI(M) in her state.

Banerjee and Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the CPI(M), whose party she had driven from power in West Bengal, are both set to speak at the gathering.

Do not stress about trifles. After June 23, the situation will alter, according to the Congress leader.

Interestingly, Banerjee, whom Kumar had seen in Kolkata a few months before, was the one who initially proposed the idea of Kumar organising a gathering of all opposition leaders in Patna.

In response to inquiries on whether the gathering would choose the opposition camp’s candidate for prime minister, the head of the Bihar Congress noted that “I was a minister in the UPA government. Manmohan Singh was never designated as the coalition’s candidate for office. We operate differently.

He hurriedly continued, “These are matters on which, so far as the Congress is concerned, only the high command can make a decision.”

The Congress leader said in response to a different question that the state cabinet will be expanded after the opposition meeting and that “two ministers from our party and as many from the RJD will be inducted.”

The 30-member state cabinet, which comprises the Chief Minister and his RJD-affiliated deputy Tejashwi Yadav, now contains two members from the Congress.

Apart from the Deputy CM, the RJD has the majority of the cabinet positions with 14 ministers, however two vacancies remain as a result of the resignation of as many of its leaders.

Ratnesh Sada of the JD(U) has been appointed to replace another vacancy left by Santosh Suman’s recent retirement as national president of the Hindustani Awam Morcha.

The CPI(ML), CPI, and CPI(M), all of which are backing the administration from outside, are also members of the state’s governing “Mahagathbandhan.”
