Success Story: A compelling and inspirational tale from Bihar that begins with a father’s unfortunate encounter with the police and ends with his son’s journey to become a judge

Many social media users are finding inspiration in a man’s trip from the Saharsa district of Bihar. Kamlesh, a Saharsa native, placed 64th overall in the Bihar Judiciary Exam of 2022. His father, who balanced occasional rickshaw pulling and porter employment, is credited with years of unwavering determination and suffering that contributed to his achievement.

After being violently attacked by a policeman while peddling “Chhole-Bhature” from a hand-kart, Kamlesh’s father had a turbulent history. Their lives took a drastic change after this occurrence. According to Kamlesh, his father came from an extremely poor family and had previously lived in a Delhi slum with 10 other siblings.

The family had further difficulties when houses behind the Red Fort that were not allowed were demolished as a result of a government order. Kamlesh’s father had to move across the Yamuna into a leased house, so he started peddling handcarts at Chandni Chowk to make ends meet.

Kamlesh, a law student at Delhi University at the time, changed his career goal from becoming a lawyer to being a judge after being inspired by his father’s struggles and the authority of the court. Kamlesh persevered in his endeavors in spite of setbacks, such as an unsuccessful attempt to pass the Bihar Judiciary test during the epidemic.

At last, Kamlesh found success in 2022 when he placed 64th in the 31st Bihar Judiciary Examination. Kamlesh broke down in tears as he realized what he had done over the phone, after hearing his friend’s decision. He was alone himself at home when the news of his achievement finally reached him, even if at first he couldn’t find his name on the results list.

His family, engrossed in their everyday routines, shed happy tears at hearing of Kamlesh’s incredible accomplishment. The narrative is a monument to tenacity, willpower, and the transformational potential of learning.
