Why Did Nitish Kumar Turn Down the Convener Position at the INDIA Bloc? This Is What He Said

CURRENT INDIA Bloc Meeting: Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar and head of the JD(U), turned down the invitation to serve as the INDIA alliance convenor on Saturday, according to sources cited by news agency ANI. The development coincides with the leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc holding a virtual summit.

JD(U) leader Sanjay Kumar Jha said, “The CM (Nitish Kumar) wanted the INDIA alliance convenor should be from Congress only,” while addressing reporters in Delhi.

The agenda for seat-sharing, participation in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, and other alliance-related issues were the main topics of discussion at the meeting. Several party leaders participated in the video conference with the INDIA bloc leaders, including MK Stalin of the DMK, Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Tamil Nadu’s chief minister.

At their most recent meeting, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and Chief Minister of the State of Rajasthan, Akhilesh Yadav, suggested Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for prime minister.

The Congress is one of the opposition parties that make up INDIA. In the Lok Sabha elections, the parties have united to oppose the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and stop it from securing a third consecutive term at the Centre.

The political environment in India is changing significantly as the Lok Sabha elections draw closer. The INDIA coalition is preparing to take on the well-established National Democratic Alliance in the forthcoming elections, which will likely lead to a political battle.

The NDA won 353 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the UPA secured 91 seats and Others secured 98 seats. Approximately 67% of the over 900 million eligible voters cast ballots in the seven staggered stages of voting that took place between April 11 and May 19 in order to elect 542 members of the Lok Sabha.
