Will Nitish Kumar lead the INDIA Bloc? “Near Consensus Reached” Prior to Today’s Key Meeting

The leaders of the Opposition group are scheduled to meet virtually at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar could be chosen to serve as the INDIA alliance’s convener.

News18 was informed by sources that some parties would not be present for the conversation. According to a source, “between 10 and 12 parties will participate, and the decision will be conveyed to others.”

According to further sources, Nitish Kumar is mostly agreed upon, despite the fact that Mamata Banerjee advocated for the Janata Dal (United) leader with Rahul and Sonia Gandhi.

The Opposition believes that Kumar’s origins in Bihar, the Hindi heartland, would undermine Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s influence and power in the region, which is one of the key arguments in favor of Kumar.

“We want to maintain the momentum as Rahul Gandhi sets out on a significant yatra. It would be futile to try to bring the Opposition together if Nitish Kumar joins the BJP-led NDA. This seems to be a worry shared by the majority of INDIA bloc members. In any case, the Congress would continue to be the dominant party in the coalition by continuing to hold Kharge’s position as national president or chairman, a Congress official was cited as stating in an Indian Express article.

Akhilesh Prasad Singh, the head of Congress Bihar, has also hinted that Nitish Kumar would become the alliance’s convener.

According to a Times of India story, Singh said that while there were rumors circulating, there was no chance of Nitish leaving the INDIA bloc.

He termed the chief minister of Bihar the axis of their INDIA bloc and commended him for his efforts in bringing the opposition parties together.

According to the Congress leader, Nitish has all the necessary abilities and would be appointed as the INDIA bloc convener. “The confusion will become evident very soon, and the BJP will learn a lesson in 2024.” Singh was cited as stating, “In actuality, the day Nitish left them, BJP people couldn’t sleep.”

Tejashwi Yadav, Kumar’s deputy, endorsed the plan as well. He said that the chief minister of Bihar is a seasoned leader and that it would be fantastic if he was appointed as the INDIA coalition coordinator.

Yadav, an RJD member, too seemed certain that the seeming difficult subject of seat-sharing would be resolved “without any problem.”

“Nitish Kumar is a very experienced leader. When reporters at the Gaya airport asked Yadav about rumors that the president of JD(U) would be named the opposition coalition’s convener, he said, “If such a proposal comes, it will be great for Bihar.”
