According to Mukesh Ambani, businesses have a duty to create a stronger, more inclusive India

The wealthiest person in India, Mukesh Ambani, said on Saturday that it is the business community’s duty to create a more powerful and inclusive India, according to new agency PTI.

Speaking at a Gems and Jewellery Exports Promotion (GJEPC) event in Mumbai on March 30, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries expressed assurance that the sector would achieve its export target of USD 100 billion over the next few decades.

“All of us collectively in the business community have a responsibility to build a stronger, better and more inclusive India to fulfil the vision and the goal that our PM has set for us, that of a Viksit Bharat, a fully developed India in the next decades,” he told PTI.

Ambani commended the gem and diamond sector for its efforts over the last several decades in generating over 50 lakh employment in the nation and reaching USD 40 billion in exports. Ambani underscored that he is “proud” of the effort, saying that the industry headed by individuals from Palanpur has come a long way from humble beginnings.

In addition to mentioning that the Ambani family had links to Kathiawad, he made a suggestion about potential collaboration with the Palanpuris.

“The Kathaiwadis and Palanpuris may sometimes work together to increase the opportunity. He said, “The larger the pie, the better for us,” according to PTI.

Ambani also said that the Ambani family is “fortunate” to have Shloka, who “radiates warmth and wisdom,” and that Shloka is the daughter of Russell Mehta of Rosyblue, one of the industry’s pioneering businesses, according to PTI.

Governor Ramesh Bais of Maharashtra was present at the occasion, when Mehta received the Lifetime Achievement award.

The highest authority for the Indian gem and jewelry sector is the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

As a businessman, I have to say that I’m impressed by what you’ve accomplished. “You truly exemplify the genuine essence of enterprise and entrepreneurship,” Ambani said during his speech, according to ANI.

“You are in an industry where, as India, we don’t have diamonds, we don’t produce gold, but through your enterprise and Indian talent, you have created a very large industry over the last four decades and have continuously been among the top three exports industries from India,” he stated to ANI.

According to Ambani, the export of jewels and jewelry might reach USD 100 billion in the future.

Currently, the gem and jewelry industry in India generates over USD 40 billion in export revenue yearly and employs around 5 million people.

You now have the chance to really embody the Made in India movement. To bring value; to showcase Indian creativity, design, and thoughts to the rest of the globe,” Ambani said, according to ANI.

In 2022–2023, India exported jewelry and diamonds valued at Rs 37.74 billion.
