Dependency Jio overtakes China Mobile to become the biggest mobile operator in the world in terms of data traffic

China Mobile has been surpassed by the telecom behemoth from India, Reliance Jio, to become the biggest mobile provider globally in terms of data traffic.

Jio made the news on Monday along with the release of its quarterly statistics, which included some astounding figures and accomplishments across a number of categories.

Jio counts 481.8 million members as of March 2024, with 108 million of them users on the True5G Standalone network. The figure illustrates Jio’s dominance in the Indian telecom industry.

A press statement states that 40.9 exabytes of traffic have passed through the Jio network overall, representing a 35.2% year-over-year growth.

This increase is explained by the increasing use of 5G and home services.

Notably, 5G subscribers account for 28% of traffic, suggesting a quick shift to next-generation connectivity.

Jio’s Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services have also made a substantial contribution to the data traffic.

The yearly data traffic has dramatically increased by 2.4 times since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic, and the monthly per capita data use has skyrocketed to 28.7 GB from only 13.3 GB three years ago. This increase highlights India’s increasing dependence on digital connections.

The chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh D. Ambani, commented on the outcomes and expressed his happiness with the business’s success and contribution to the Indian economy.

He emphasized the noteworthy accomplishments, such as becoming the first Indian business to generate pre-tax earnings beyond Rs 100,000 crore.
