In Karnataka, two ladies lost Rs 3.35 lakh due to internet scam

In an internet scam, a 35-year-old lady lost Rs 2.21 lakh. On April 9, she got a message on WhatsApp informing her that she would get Rs 50 in exchange for a Google review.

She finished the review and got Rs 150 after believing the message. She was thereafter given a number of chores to do, and once the accused gained her trust, she sent Rs 2.21 lakh. At the Udupi Town Police Station, a case is opened.

In a another instance, an internet scammer defrauded a 28-year-old lady from Trasi village of Rs 1.14 lakh. On April 7, she got a message on her WhatsApp account promising her money if she chooses to work from home and clicks on the link.

She gave money to unidentified people on April 8 and 9, never received it back, and lost Rs 1.14 lakh in the process. In accordance with sections 417, 420 of the IPC and 66 C and 66 D of the IT Act, Gangolli police have filed a complaint.
