The Odisha GST Department Is Penalizing Infosys; Here’s Why

The largest provider of IT services, Infosys, said on Tuesday that it has been fined Rs 1.46 lakh by the Odisha GST body for claiming an invalid input tax credit.

In a filing with the exchange, Infosys said that it got the order for the collection of a penalty of Rs 1,46,873 on April 22, 2024, from the Assistant Commissioner of State, Odisha (GST).

According to the submission, a penalty has been applied to the credit that was obtained for the 2018–19 invalid input Tax Credit.

Infosys stated that there was no discernible effect on the company’s operations, finances, or other business-related activities.

The firm apologized for the delay in submitting and said that it was deciding what to do next after verifying the information.
