This is what happens to consumers when Microsoft adds advertisements to the Windows 11 Start menu

Microsoft has officially begun distributing the update KB5036980 to all Windows 11 users after some time spent testing advertisements in the Windows 11 Insider Preview. In the next few weeks, everyone will have access to the upgrade, which is being released gradually.

Users of Windows 11 may see app suggestions in the Start Menu
Microsoft has included “recommendations” for software from the Microsoft Store in the Start Menu as part of the advertisements.

This implies that the Start menu will provide app suggestions from the Microsoft Store for users.
In the update notes for its most recent public Windows 11 release, Microsoft states that “the Recommended section of the Start menu will show some Microsoft Store apps.” The announcement also states, “These apps are the work of a select group of developers.”

Microsoft has now made it possible to deactivate the “Recommended” applications. There is a catch, though: turning off suggestion also turns off other elements of Windows 11, so turning them off might mean missing out on some crucial functions. Go to Settings > Personalization > Start, find the “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more” option, and flip it off to deactivate.
It’s also crucial to remember that the KB5036980 update is now optional, but Microsoft plans to release it as a regular release in the following weeks.

Microsoft has begun displaying frequently used applications—those that aren’t already pinned—in the Start Menu in addition to the Recommended apps. The functionality was included in Windows 10 and has now made its way into Windows 11. Users will find it simpler to return to their favorite PC software as a result.
The update also makes enhancements to the lock screen and desktop widgets. The business has addressed the blurry widget icons on the desktop and added some animation to some of the icons.
