Today’s stock market: Sensex and Nifty both saw weaker opening session trades

NEW DELHI: During Thursday’s opening session, the main equity indexes, the Nifty50 and the BSE Sensex, saw weaker trade. Early trading saw Sensex fall 264.7 points to 72,497.19 and Nifty fall 80.2 points to 21,917.50.

In trading on Wednesday, both of the key Indian stock indexes fell precipitously. The main stock index for India, the BSE Sensex, dropped 1,100 points and closed below 73,000, while the Nifty50 also sank below 22,000.

The Nifty50 finished the trading day at 21,997.70, down over 330 points, or 1.51%, while the Sensex completed the day at 72,761.89, down over 900 points, or 1.23%.
It was the smallcap index’s biggest one-day drop since December 2022, with a 5% decrease. Microcaps and SME stock indexes both witnessed declines of almost 6%, while midcaps had a loss of 4%.
In terms of wealth depreciation, Wednesday was the worst day for investors since COVID-19. BSE’s market capitalization at the end of the day was Rs 378.7 lakh crore.
Due to the day’s selloff, investors’ wealth was completely destroyed, with the BSE’s market capitalization declining by Rs 13.9 lakh crore.
Adani equities had the most single-session wealth depreciation of the group, amounting to Rs 1.1 lakh crore, at the same time as the Sensex saw the second-largest decline in market capitalization.
