With iOS 18, Apple Maps is expected to have a custom route feature

Apple is renowned for its skill in adding rivals’ pre-existing features to its own products while maintaining a distinctive design. The most recent conjecture is on the possible inclusion of personalized routes in Apple Maps. The ‘CustomRouteCreation’ file may have been found in the Maps backend, according to reports from MacRumors, which may indicate that iOS 18 will have this functionality.

Although it hasn’t been formally verified yet, some believe Apple should have done this sooner, considering that rival apps like Google Maps have had comparable features for years. Enabling route planning inside Apple Maps instead of using third-party browsers might greatly enhance the user experience. We are still awaiting confirmation of this reported functionality, however.

Users of Apple Maps are now unable to choose their own routes, however, with the introduction of iOS 18, this may change. It is anticipated that the future feature will let users choose which routes to take on their travels, whether it the usual route or a scenic one.

Although Google Maps offers a similar feature set, iOS users may find it more convenient to plan their routes on a computer and then access them on their Apple devices. It’s interesting to note that consumers have been asking for this function for years, and it seems like their desire will be fulfilled in the next few months.

Although Google Maps has several features, such as thorough street view coverage and precise traffic updates, its UI is known for giving users a lot of information, making it appealing to users who want in-depth research and a variety of capabilities.

On the other hand, Apple Maps is praised for its intuitive navigation system and places a high priority on user privacy. Apple Maps is only available on Apple devices, however, Google Maps is available to users on a variety of platforms.

According to sources from the same page, watchOS 10 will include topographic maps in addition to the Apple Maps upgrade. These maps, which are presently only accessible by Apple Watch owners, will soon be made more widely available to other users. The functionality is in development, according to code discovered in the backend files for iOS 18, macOS 15, and Vision OS 2. Hikers’ outdoor experience is enhanced by the information provided by topographic maps, which include sites of interest, paths, and elevation data.

The organization led by Tim Cook is anticipated to reveal iOS 18 and all of its features during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which takes place from June 10 to June 14. It’s interesting to note that on the first day of WWDC 2024, not only celebrities from the media but also developers and students will have the chance to attend in person. In addition, the event will be live-streamed on a number of platforms, including YouTube, for those who are unable to attend in person.
