Xbox’s future: Microsoft intends to use PlayStation and other competitors’ platforms to expand its gaming business

The exclusive nature of the games was one of the most discussed “issues” in the antitrust proceedings surrounding Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard. At the time, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that the business wanted games to be available “on more platforms” and that maintaining exclusive titles, such as Call of Duty, “makes no economic or strategic sense.” The manufacturer of Windows is reportedly getting ready to implement their ideas.

The Verge revealed that Microsoft is preparing to release a limited selection of Xbox titles on Sony’s PS5 and Nintendo Switch, two of its main competitors, citing people familiar with the company’s intentions. This news coincides with rumors that Bethesda games like Indiana Jones and Starfield, as well as Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, may be heading to platforms other than Xbox.
This appears to be the best course of action for the corporation to expand the Xbox business, especially as Xbox Series S and X sales are trailing behind Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has acknowledged a slowdown in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
Some systems other than Xbox may get these games.
According to the source, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentimen are the first two titles that may be released on competing systems. Additionally, it said that Microsoft is thinking of releasing additional first-party games alongside Sea of Thieves when it launches the game on non-Xbox platforms later this year.
According to the report, Microsoft will be able to expand the audience for its first-party games and increase gaming income by releasing Xbox titles on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch.
In the meanwhile, Spencer has informed the employees that the firm would not be leaving the console market and will instead continue to produce hardware in addition to its more comprehensive gaming approach. Additionally, on February 15, Microsoft will discuss its “vision for the future of Xbox” in further detail in an upcoming Official Xbox Podcast.
