Xiaomi Is About To Start Shipping Out Its First EV SU7

On the microblogging platform Weibo, Xiaomi made the announcement and said that orders could be done at any of its 59 stores throughout 29 different states in the country. Xiaomi’s foray into the electric vehicle industry coincides with a wider trend of EV sales growth in China, where the market is characterized by fierce competition and price wars. Even though EV sales increased by 18% in January and February of this year, market leader BYD Group led the way in price reductions due to competition.

Xiaomi made this choice in keeping with its goals to expand outside its primary smartphone business, which it initially declared in 2021. A division of the state-owned automaker BAIC Group will assemble the SU7 cars at a Beijing plant with a 200,000 vehicle production capability per year.
