Amitabh Bachchan describes how his worldwide concert career was launched by Lata Mangeshkar

Amitabh Bachchan paid a touching homage to the late Lata Mangeshkar, the great playback singer, recalling a turning point in his career that the vocalist had a direct impact on. Receiving the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, Bachchan expressed humility and astonishedment at being deemed ‘worthy’ of the recognition.

However, he disclosed that Hridyanath Mangeshkar’s tenacious efforts were what persuaded him to attend the function, and he expressed regret for missing it the year before owing to an alleged sickness.Amitabh Bachchan gave an emotional account from his history during his acceptance speech, which illuminated the origins of his venture into worldwide musical performances.Thinking back to a chance meeting with Lata Mangeshkar in 1981 while visiting New York, Bachchan described how the evening took an unexpected turn.

In an attempt to get Amitabh Bachchan to briefly join her on stage, Lata Mangeshkar unintentionally launched a new phase of his career.

Lata Mangeshkar begged Amitabh Bachchan to play the song live as he was about to leave the event. She was attracted by stories that he had just been in the movie “Laawaris.” Bachchan obliged without much thought, belting out the timeless song “Mere Angne Mein.” The jubilant reception from the crowd dawned on Amitabh Bachchan’s acquaintance, who foresaw a future replete with worldwide engagements for the superstar.

In the meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan is working on the much anticipated “Kalki 2898 AD.”
