Blue Finch to Launch Sales of Chris Jericho’s Wrestling Action Horror Film “Dark Match” at Cannes Market (EXCLUSIVE)

Blue Finch Films, a U.K.-based sales and distribution company, has acquired the global rights to the 1980s-set wrestling action-horror film “Dark Match,” with the exception of Canada.

Rock musician and professional wrestler Chris Jericho plays the lead role in the movie, which was written and directed by Lowell Dean (“Wolfcop”). The movie will be released later this year, and its festival debut will soon be revealed. Sales of Blue Finch are set to commence at the next Cannes Film Market.

In the movie, a small-time wrestling promotion agrees to a lucrative contract in a remote town, only to discover that the town is controlled by an enigmatic cult leader who has sinister intentions for their match. Miss Behave and her companions are forced to compete with one another in a true struggle for survival when the lights go out. Ayisha Issa (“Transplant”) and Steven Ogg (“The Walking Dead”) are also members of the cast.

Dept. 9 Studios’ John K. MacDonald, Don Depoe, Michael Feehan, Michael Peterson, and Rhonda Baker produced the movie.

When Dean penned “Dark Match,” he says, “I wondered if it would ever be made. But, in a matter of months, I was on an Edmonton set, working with a dedicated cast and crew who gave their (fake) blood and sweat to bring the story to life.” I am eager to introduce everyone to this movie.”

“After reading Lowell’s page-turning script, we quickly fell in love with the film’s heady blend of action and the occult,” Blue Finch Films’ Mike Chapman said. The group as a whole has produced a thrilling genre picture that succeeds on all fronts.

Recently, Jericho and writer/filmmaker Jay Bonansinga collaborated on the psychological thriller “Self Storage.”

The Steven Soderbergh-presented movie “Cold Wallet,” the Sydney-winning “Birdeater,” and the SXSW-winning “Oddity” are all on Blue Finch’s worldwide slate.
