Enjoy Your Birthday, King Khan: The Reason Behind Shah Rukh’s Purchase of Mannat

There is no need to introduce Shah Rukh Khan, called the Badshah of Bollywood. On November 2, he turns 58 years old today. Every year on his birthday, he went outside at midnight to welcome the hundreds of admirers who had gathered outside Mannat, his Mumbai home. Are you aware that there’s a fascinating tale behind why SRK felt compelled to buy Mannat? The ostentatious mansion is valued at a staggering Rs 200 crore. In a previous radio interview, SRK said that he bought Mannat because Savita Chhibber, his mother-in-law, thought his first apartment—a penthouse—was too tiny.

In the interview, SRK said, “My hometown is Delhi.” Large homes are the norm for Delhiites. However, there is a notion of apartment living in Mumbai. In Delhi, even those without wealth attempt to own a modest home. “When I moved to Mumbai, my wife Gauri and I shared a small apartment,” he added. “How do you live in such a small house?” was a common question my mother-in-law would ask. Delhi is also the hometown of SRK’s mother-in-law.

Shah Rukh went on to say that the first thought that came to him when he saw Mannat was that this looked like a residence in Delhi. “I made the spontaneous decision to purchase Mannat,” he said.

Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh have been wed for more than 30 years. They are among the most well-known married pairs in Bollywood right now. However, Gauri’s parents weren’t always happy with her choice to wed Shah Rukh Khan.

Gauri discussed the same thing in an interview from 2008, stating that her parents were “obviously not in for it.” At the time of her marriage to Shah Rukh, who was 26 years old, Gauri was just 21. “When we were young, I made the decision to marry someone who would work in movies and follow a different faith,” she said to Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, the costume designers for their show First Ladies.
