Jaya Bachchan discusses her lack of acknowledgment for creating new ground in her work: “I felt awful; it wasn’t fair.”

Jaya Bachchan’s diverse performances in a number of iconic films, including Guddi, Abhimaan, Sholay, Silsila, and many more, have had a lasting impact on the industry. Nevertheless, seasoned actress Jaya Bachchan recently stated that she often felt unloved and underpaid despite her extraordinary skills and iconic roles.
On her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast, Jaya expressed her dissatisfaction at not getting enough credit for her contributions to Indian film, saying, “It hurts a lot when an artist doesn’t get recognized.”

There are moments when I feel like we accomplished so much groundbreaking, original, and paradigm-shifting work, yet we don’t get enough credit for it. I am speaking about acknowledgment, not gratitude. Then presume that’s my destiny. I won’t claim to be impacted. It was unjust, and I felt horrible.”

Shweta Bachchan Nanda, her daughter, also spoke candidly about encountering obstacles and criticism in her career. When thinking back on the unfavorable reviews she got for her first novel, Paradise Towers (2018), Shweta acknowledged that the event had a profoundly detrimental impact on her self-esteem and caused her to doubt her skills.
Both Jaya Bachchan and her daughter Shweta have persisted in pursuing their careers in the entertainment world in spite of obstacles. Jaya recently appeared on screen opposite Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi in Karan Johar’s film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
