John Krasinski About ‘IF’ Being Inspired by His Kids: “My Dream Has Always Been to Create a Movie for Them” | Exclusive

Following the release of the animated film IF (Imaginary Friends) teaser, viewers worldwide have been enamored with the endearing characters played by John Krasinski. John Krasinski wrote and directed the film IF, which tells the story of a girl who goes on a fantastical quest to reunite lost IFs with their children after learning she has the talent to see everyone’s imaginary friends.

Not only is it a movie that will inevitably draw in children, but it also transports viewers to their early years by fusing fantasy and reality. But who did John draw inspiration from for this captivating tale? It should come as no surprise—his own kids!

“I’ve always wanted to make a movie for them,” he declares. Emily says they won’t be seeing the Quiet Place movies for a while since they are PG-40. I got to spend a lot of time with my then-8-year-old and 6-year-old girls during the early stages of the epidemic, and I saw firsthand the creative potential in them. However, as the epidemic progressed, I saw that their lights were going out. Though they had been so enthusiastic and full of enthusiasm, they were starting to become more circumspect about everything.

“I thought, wouldn’t it be amazing if you could bring all of that magic into your own real life?” he says, pointing out how we are captivated by fairytales that take us to another realm from an early age. If this film conveys anything, I want viewers to realize that having faith in something greater and more lovely may really carry you through each day. It’s the type of narrative I’ve always wanted to share.

The voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Steve Carell, and many more actors portray the very powerful characters in IF, which also includes Cailey Fleming, Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, and many more.

May 17 is the movie’s Indian premiere date.
