Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang collaborate on a version of The Wedding Banquet
Director Andrew Ahn’s Bleecker Street and Shivhans Pictures adaptation of Ang Lee’s 1993 romantic comedy The Wedding Banquet stars Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang.
Joan Chen, Yuh-jung Youn, an Oscar winner, and Kelly Marie Tran will also be involved in the project. Gladstone’s love companion will be portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran.
The original film’s plot will be followed during the May shooting in Vancouver. In order for one best friend to get a Green Card and the other to cover her partner’s IVF costs, the two arrange a fictitious wedding. The idea is rather straightforward: get everything worked out quickly by eloping to city hall. The issue is that, out of the blue, the man’s grandmother chooses to travel from Seoul to plan a lavish Korean wedding.
Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio were last seen together in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. For her portrayal, the actress was awarded a Golden Globe in the Best Actress category. Gladstone and the movie received Oscar nominations as well.
Yang, who most recently starred in Dicks: The Musical, will next be seen in Wicked, a musical fantasy starring Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Ariana Grande.
In 2025, The Wedding Banquet is expected to hit theaters.
