Monkey Man: Dev Patel Says “His Real Identity Was Influenced By Shah Rukh Khan’s Character In Koyla”

Actor Dev Patel is now anticipating the release of his critically acclaimed movie, Monkey Man, in India. In a recent film promotion interview, Dev conveyed his profound respect for Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. During the conversation, Dev disclosed that one of the rare moments in his life that really inspired him was SRK’s performance in Koyla.

Dev Patel on how Shah Rukh Khan served as an inspiration
In an interview with Draw Your Box, Dev attempted to reminisce about his early years and see King Khan in a distinctive capacity.

“I remember a movie,” he said. You know, I saw this movie Koyla with Shah Rukh Khan when I was extremely little, so I don’t really remember the narrative that well. He had this type of mullet hairdo, this sword, and these crimson eyes. He was also soaked in perspiration. It was like a horrific vengeance epic, where he lost his voice after being made to swallow hot coals. It was like, it’s got it all. It’s similar to me in several ways. My identity has been shaped by these many influences, in a way.

In a recent AMA session he held on Reddit, Dev Patel also said how much he admires Shahrukh. A fan questioned him during the event, “What are your favorite Bollywood films? “Anything Shah Rukh Khan does inspire your writing/direction for Monkey Man?” he said in a snappy response.

Concerning Monkey Man
Along with Sharlto Copley and Bollywood actors Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande, Dev Patel makes his directorial debut with Monkey Man.

The film is a timeless story of a young man seeking revenge motivated by ambition after his mother was killed by a gang of unscrupulous leaders who continued to prey on the weak and defenseless in order to maintain their position of power.

While the film was originally scheduled for release on April 19, it is unclear when the next Dev Patel movie will open in theaters.

Nevertheless, there are no release date hints in the newly released trailers or other movie-related promotional materials.
