Not Salman, Aamir, Prabhas, Akshay, or SRK; this actor, who starred in Naxalite, India’s first film made for 100 crores, fled when

In Indian film, the 100-crore club now has more than 100 members. That indicates that since Ghajini first surpassed the milestone in 2008, over 100 movies have brought in more than Rs 100 crore from domestic net sales. Contrary to common belief, Ghajini was not the first film in India to earn Rs 100 crore. One movie from the 1980s made over Rs 100 crore in total revenue, partly because of its phenomenal run in the Soviet Union. And an unexpected star took center stage!

The actor who provided the first Rs. 100 crore film in India

The first Indian film to earn Rs 100 crore was Disco Dancer, a dance film directed by Babbar Subhash. At home, the movie was well-received and brought in a little over Rs 7 crore, a respectable amount considering it lacked major actors. However, the movie created a frenzy in the USSR, where it earned Rs 94 crore by 1985, making it the de facto creator of the 100-crore club. Mithun Chakraborty shot to national prominence after the movie, and a few years later he starred in many more musicals and dance-oriented movies, including Subhash’s own Dance Dance.

The days Mithun Chakraborty was a Naxalite

Before starring in Disco Dancer, Mithun was a well-known actor, having starred with Amitabh Bachchan in Do Anjaane and taking home a National Award for his first feature Mrigayaa. But Mithun had a terrible history before he started acting. Following his graduation from Kolkata in the 1970s, Mithun adopted the Naxalite religion. Even though it was risky for him to leave the Naxal fold, Mithun returned to his family when his brother passed away in an unusual accident a few years later. The well-known Naxal commander Ravi Ranjan, often known as Bhaa, was friends with the actor. However, Mithun moved on from this period of his life once he started working in movies.
