Priyadarshan remarks on the Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa sequels and confirms his reunion with Akshay Kumar: “Makers take advantage of…”
In addition to confirming their reunion, director Priyadarshan revealed the plot of their next film. With their comedic hits Hera Pheri (2000), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), and De Dana Dan (2009), the actor-director team has made history at the box office. Priyadarshan stated that he and Akshay are working together again on a project after a 15-year break in an interview with Hindustan Times.
The National Awardee filmmaker has completed his documentary series on the history of the Ram Mandir. “My most important film on which I am beginning work is the one with Akshay, produced by Ekta Kapoor,” the filmmaker stated, discussing his collaboration with Kumar.
It’s a humorous horror fantasy. Working with Akshay is a delight every time. He manages the emotions so effectively that things have always worked out beautifully with him.” When asked about whether it will resemble Bhool Bhulaiyaa, he said, “That was a psychological thriller, but this one will be fantasy, set against the backdrop of magic, the oldest superstition in India.”
Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, two Priyadarshan movies, became profitable franchises. Priyadarshan said that he dislikes working on sequels when he was asked about his thoughts on them. “The first one is always the best, like Hera Pheri,” said the director. It’s always going to be delicious, and you can create any second or third portions. Everyone will always claim to have enjoyed the original. Filmmakers take advantage of that market’s success in sequels.
That is not improper behavior in any way. People create sequels all around the globe. Despite being directed by a different person, Terminator 2 was larger than its predecessor. I find it difficult to work on sequels. Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Vidya Balan play in the key roles of Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The next horror comedy film is slated to release on Diwali in 2024. Hera Pheri 3 is still in the pre-production phase.
