Jimmy Shergill’s new series, Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond, takes viewers behind the scenes of the defense action and the subsequent quest to bring back Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman, with 2024 commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Balakot airstrikes. Today, the show’s trailer was unveiled, and Jimmy Shergill expressed his enthusiasm for the drama taking place in the war room.

Jimmy Shergill said, “This is unlike any role that I have done in the past,” in reference to his work on the show. Being a part of India’s first online series with a war room theme and real-life events that shocked the country has been, to put it mildly, tough but also very rewarding. We usually learn about warlike situations from books or news reports, but being a part of Ranneeti gave me the opportunity to see firsthand the tactics, the risk-taking, and the emotional development of those making the decisions from inside the war room. During one particularly challenging schedule, I recall that not a single cast member voiced any complaints despite the unit working nonstop for 48 hours. Even though we hadn’t slept, the surge of adrenaline kept us going. We had the impression that we were at the center of everything.

In addition to Jimmy, the ensemble cast consists of Lara Dutta, Ashish Vidyarthi, Ashutosh Rana, and Prasanna. Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman, played by Prasanna, said, “It’s been an absolute honor to play the role of a national hero.” Although I just followed the plan, the group involved in the real operation made history that wasn’t planned because of their bravery and unwavering devotion to the country. During the moment where the group captain was seized by the Pakistani soldiers, I can still clearly recall getting shivers. I will always cherish my fan-boy experience of meeting some of the members who were involved in the operation.

The series is produced by Sunjoy Waddhwa and Comall Sunjay W from Sphereorigins Multivision Private Limited and is directed by Santosh Singh. The explosive fictitious drama will premiere on JioCinema on April 25.
