Gadar 2 Is Close To The Rs 300-CR Mark, But ‘Jailer’ Is Giving It A Run For Its Money

Since its August 11 release, Gadar 2 has amassed a total income of Rs 270.20 crore (net: Rs 229.98 crore), continuing its successful run at the box office.

It is now resting good at Rs 298.20 crore, and if you add all its international receipts, it is just shy of Rs 300 crore. On August 15, the movie earned the most money per day (Rs. 55.4 crore).

The Tamil smash “Jailer,” starring Rajinikanth, is closely behind it with a net revenue of Rs 210.65 crore since its August 10 release (that is, without GST, which is 18% on movies).

The trade media have estimated the film’s international profits at Rs 392.20 crore, much more than those of ‘Gadar 2’, helped by Thalaiva’s enormous foreign fan base.

Comparatively, ‘OMG 2’s’ global gross has yet to surpass Rs 100 crore; it is currently hanging at Rs 99.30 crore, with its India gross collection hovering around Rs 85.3 crore (net: 72.27 crore). This is despite being the best for an Akshay Kumar-led movie in the last two years.

Chiranjeevi’s “Bhola Shankar” must settle for a global total of Rs 39 crore, with India theaters contributing Rs 33.4 crore (net: Rs 28.35 crore), in comparison to these blockbuster films.

Trade analyst and Senior Vice President of Elara Capital Karan Taurani provided an analysis of the “Gadar 2” phenomena for IANS. He stated: “The film has seen a big impact in the North, particularly in the Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, which have seen a huge uptick.”

The movie, which stars Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, the lead from the original “Gadar,” has been averaging above 80% occupancy nationwide from Bengaluru to Delhi-NCR, where it has registered a staggering 95.75% occupancy.

It actually is a case of cash registers ringing overtime — and how! The film allegedly cost Rs 75 crore to make.

Taurani anticipates a decline in attendance now that the Independence Day fervor (and vacation) has passed, but the industry is optimistic about “Gadar 2” joining the Rs 500-crore club.

The main concern of the industry is whether “Gadar 2” can surpass the achievements of its predecessor, “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” which, although facing competition from “Lagaan,” managed to earn Rs 111.73 crore (global gross collection) in 2001. Furthermore, this amount is not inflation-adjusted.
