Rumors about the “Aashiqui” franchise cleared up by the production studio; see inside

A few years ago, T-Series made waves when they revealed that “Aashiqui 3” was being developed, with Kartik Aaryan expected to play the main role and Anurag Basu attached to helm the film. These ideas, however, have been refuted by a recent official statement from the production company, which states that there are currently no plans to bring the brand back. They said unequivocally that any further work on “Aashiqui” would only be done in association with the Bhatts, who own the original film’s rights.

“T-Series wishes to clarify that we are not presently involved in the development or production of Aashiqui 3,” said an official statement. As co-owners of the series, T-Series and Vishesh Films/Mukesh Bhatt will only produce Aashiqui 3 together if and when it is announced. We vehemently refute any current rumors claiming that T-Series is producing Aashiqui 3 under a new name. Neither Aashiqui 3 nor any of the Aashiqui series are associated with our planned picture, which Anurag Basu will be directing. We really value our fans’ unwavering excitement and support. We are dedicated to providing only the best material, and we look forward to working with our respected partners on new projects in the future.”

The 1990 hit song “Aashiqui” became one of the biggest hits of the year and is still topping the charts to this day. Due to the enormous popularity of the film, it acted as a springboard for Anu Aggarwal and Rahul Roy, catapulting them into immediate celebrity. 2013 saw the release of the sequel, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, more than two decades after the first film. Once again, the movie and its soundtrack were very well-liked.
