India Is Invited By Switzerland To Attend Next Month’s Peace Summit in Ukraine

Bern: India has been asked by Switzerland to take part in the Peace in Ukraine Summit that takes place next month. The historically neutral nation of Switzerland is making an attempt to put an end to the two-year conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The summit on June 15 and 16 aims “to develop a common understanding of a path towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” as stated by the Swiss. The Burgenstock resort conference will take place immediately after the G7 summit in Italy.

Although India has been invited and is anticipated to attend, it is unclear how much of an impact the country will have. Will S. Jaishankar, the minister of foreign affairs, or Prime Minister Narendra Modi be present? Crucially, it is immediately after the June 4 outcomes of the Indian Lok Sabha election, and depending on those results, it is a matter of ministry formation. India is expected to respond to the invitation in the near future.

What’s more, are the Russians going to play along? The Swiss have said that the Russians have not yet received an invitation since they have consistently stated they would prefer not to take part. However, the Swiss feel that a meeting without Russia is unimaginable and that the Russians must be part of the process.

But the majority, if not all, of the EU’s member states, as well as the G7, will undoubtedly be there. Switzerland has sent out 160 invites in all. Although it is unknown whether President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be attending, Ukraine is most likely to take part.

There will be three main goals for the gathering. According to international law and the UN Charter, it would “provide a platform for dialogue on ways towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine.” Its purpose is to “advance a shared comprehension of a potential structure to accomplish this objective and collaboratively establish a plan on how to include both sides in a future peace process.”

The conflict, which has lasted for more than two years, has caused a great deal of carnage and harm to the global economy, especially in South Asian nations like India. The high cost of food, gasoline, and fertilizer on a global scale is having an impact on many developing nations.
