Shoojit Sircar Thinks Back on October and the Vicky Donor: “It Was A Difficult Taboo Subject.”

On April 20, Shoojit Sircar will have two celebrations. This day marks the release of two of his most important movies, October and Vicky Donor, despite they came out five years apart. He discusses the two pivotal films of his career in an exclusive interview.

The simultaneous publication of two of the best pieces seems like an odd coincidence, don’t you think?
Indeed, a remarkable coincidence. That I was able to create these two tales makes me glad. I never imagined the movie would get so much praise.
Despite its initial lack of success, October has developed a cult following over time.

October surprised many moviegoers by gaining a significant fanbase during the outbreak. I’ve never received so many kind notes before.

Wasn’t Vicky Donor a really brave step into uncharted territory when it came to sperm donation?
I’m happy that Vicky Donor allowed me to stay true to the main plot and avoid being sidetracked by just humorous gags. Back then, it was a challenging taboo topic to discuss. However, it’s a subject that’s easier to discuss today.
October and Vicky Donor have very different themes and approaches.
I’m happy I had the opportunity to investigate several genres and, more significantly, the lives of common people.

Which of your movies is my favorite, October?
Yes, I like October’s pace; it’s my own speed. calm.
Do you have contact with your actors from Vicky Donor and October, such as Ayushmann Khurrana, Yamam Gautam, Varun Dhawan, and Banita Sandhu?
Yes, I’m still in contact with all of the actors. In subsequent projects, I collaborated with several actors from the first two films once again.

What did you learn most from the two movies?
The two most important lessons were to be true to the main plot and never stray from it, and to trust that people will appreciate your honest storytelling.

If you could make one change to Vicky Donor and October, what would it be?

I would want to see Vicky Donor modify a lot of things. But October was a slow month. I’m learning from every movie and attempting to avoid making the same errors again.

You next?
My next tale is also about an average guy and his ordinary story. The lead actor is played by Abhishek Bachchan.
Have you been observing the latest movies?
I’ve not seen a lot. mostly seeing documentaries
