This starlet had ‘obsessed’ Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who wanted to cast her in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Khamoshi, but

Renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is credited with directing blockbusters like as Gangubai Kathiawadi, Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastaani, and Devdas. The female leads in his movies have the most stunning avatars and the most compelling storylines. We’ll discuss about the director’s fascination with an actress today, as he is preparing to make his OTT debut with Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

2011 saw Sanjay discuss his fascination with Madhuri with PTI, revealing that he intended Madhuri to be in every movie he directed, starting with Khamoshi: The Musical, his directorial debut. Throughout the talk, Sanjay revealed that he had been waiting two and a half years for Madhuri to be cast in Khamoshi and that he had tried to contact her for the part but had been unsuccessful. I therefore produced the movie without her.” Bhansali had originally intended Madhuri to portray Nandini in his next film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, saying, “During Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam also I tried but it did not happen.” Twice rejected, the filmmaker “ensured that in Devdas Madhuri was there.”

Bhansali revealed his fascination with Madhuri, saying, “I’ve wanted to direct her in every one of my films, starting with Khamoshi.” She has become my obsession. Nobody else is as fixated on an actress as this filmmaker is.” Madhuri told Bhansali she was getting married before she signed on to work on Devdas. The director was asked whether she would still be considered for the role of Beta by the actress. “I told her that it didn’t matter if she was getting married or having kids, I still wanted her to play Chandramukhi,” Bhansali recalls saying in response.

Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal portray the tawaifs in the 1940s Indian independence fight against the British Raj in Heera Mandi, Lahore’s red-light district, in Bhansali’s OTT first series. Heermandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which also stars Adhyayan Suman, Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, Vaishnavi Ganatra, and Farida Jalal, among others, will be available to watch on Netflix in May.
