Veteran Punjabi filmmaker Nirmal Rishi receives a Padma Shri Award

Celebrity Punjabi actress Nirmal Rishi has achieved a major career milestone by winning the esteemed Padma Shri award. The award was given to the seasoned performer at a special event at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, the nation’s capital. She is well-known for her outstanding contributions to the Punjabi cinema industry.

President Droupadi Murmu presented Nirmal Rishi with the prestigious award in a moment filled with emotion; it is a testament to her decades-long commitment to excellence in the film industry. After the ceremony, Nirmal Rishi kindly spoke with ANI about her excitement, sharing that she had first been nervous but also happy to receive the accolade.

“When I got the first call, I was really anxious.I am very thrilled to have been acknowledged in this way.Numerous theatrical productions and more than a hundred films have enhanced my trip,” Nirmal Rishi said, expressing her sincere thanks for the recognition.

Nirmal Rishi was born in 1943 in the Mansa district hamlet of Khiva Kalan. Her love of the performing arts began while she was in school. She pursued a profession in physical education, but her passion for theater never wavered. Her breakout performance in the legendary film “Long Da Lishkara” (1983) as Gulabo Maasi cemented her place in Punjabi cinema history.

Nirmal Rishi has starred in over 60 films throughout the course of her remarkable career, which has spanned more than six decades. Her charm and talent have captivated viewers. Her film career is proof of her ongoing influence on the business, ranging from timeless songs like “Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da” (1985) to modern hits like “Nikka Zaildar” (2016) and its sequel.
