Doctors say there’s no reason to panic as COVID instances increase, but exercise caution

NEW DELHI: In response to the increase in COVID-19 instances in the city, medical professionals advised caution and adherence to safety protocols, saying there is no need to worry since the majority of patients only had minor symptoms that took five to seven days to resolve.
On Wednesday, Delhi reported 63 new cases of COVID-19, the most instances recorded in a single day since May of last year, when over 50 cases were reported.

Physicians at prestigious government and commercial institutions reported that an increase in influenza cases and H1N1 infections with somewhat more severe symptoms than Covid-19 coincided with the Covid pandemic. According to the physicians, patients were reporting a protracted cough after H1N1 or H3N2 illnesses.

The director and head of the internal medicine department of Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, Dr. Sushila Kataria, stated: “I have seen about 7-8 cases of Covid in the last 15 days, mostly in OPD.” Due to various problems, one or two had to be hospitalized. Every situation is minor. However, patients are in fact reporting high fever, cough, and cold symptoms. Some people have reported losing their sense of smell, she added, emphasizing the need of being vigilant.
The majority of them are viral infections that have tested positive for H1N1, according to Dr. Sandeep Budhiraja, senior director of the Institute of Internal Medicine and group medical director of Max Healthcare. He said that while the instances are minor, “we have started seeing Covid-positive cases in the last few weeks.” A few patients with symptoms similar to pneumonia have been treated in the outpatient department, and some of them needed to be hospitalized.
According to Dr. Shweta Bansal, senior consultant in pulmonology and sleep medicine at Narayana Hospital, these illnesses are more common in the months of February through March and October through November due to temperature variations.
“Anyone experiencing symptoms like fever, coughing, or eye infection, especially if they worsen or persist, should seek medical attention right away,” the spokesperson said.
Covid positive instances are also being reported by government hospitals. According to medical professionals, “at least 11 cases have been reported at Safdarjung Hospital in the last 15 days, but most had mild symptoms.”
Covid-positive cases have also been recorded by RML Hospital throughout the last two weeks. Three of the seven patients were released after being hospitalized. According to Dr. Ajay Shukla, director and medical superintendent, the infection’s severity is minimal.
