A Jewish diplomat’s son was assaulted in prison for talking about sausages

NEW DELHI: The son of an Israeli ambassador, 19, who was detained after he ran over a police officer in the US, was physically assaulted in a Florida prison after a conversation over the “ingredients of the sausages,” according to the New York Post.

Avraham Gil had gone back to the Miami-Dade County Jail to update his mugshot when he was assaulted while having a talk about sausages with another prisoner, Blake Elvis Ermus.

“I was discussing the contents of the sausages with the defendant, Ermus. The defendant eventually went up to the victim and repeatedly hit him, according to the report.
Gil received a home arrest term after he crashed his motorbike into a Sunny Isles police officer on January 27.
According to prison records, Ermus was first charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse while he was in custody, but a detainee subsequently filed a felony violence allegation against him.
Gil is facing many felony charges for assaulting law enforcement personnel. He has also been under investigation for numerous traffic rule infractions, the most recent of which was the attack on Sunny Isles.
Gil was determined to be ineligible for the US immunity granted to ambassadors and their families.
“This incident is known to the department.” The US State Department released a statement saying, “We can confirm that, as the dependent of an Israeli consular officer, the concerned individual is not entitled to civil or criminal immunity.”
