All About The Princeton Student of Indian Origin Arrested For Pro-Palestine Demonstrations

During the pro-Palestine protests on campus, an Indian student at Princeton University in the US was taken into custody. After being detained for trespassing, Achinthya Sivalingan and Hassan Sayed were “immediately barred from the campus.” Some students said that the arrest was “violent” and that zip ties had been put around their wrists.

According to reports, the detained students were allowed less than five minutes to gather their belongings after being forced from their houses.

Achinthya Sivalingan: who is she?
1. Achinthya Sivalingan grew up in Columbus, Ohio, although she was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

2. She is enrolled at Princeton University to pursue an International Development Master of Public Affairs (MPA). Prior to that, Ms. Sivalingan interned at Harvard Law School while studying international politics and economics at Ohio State University.

3. With her work in civil society organizations, the legal system, politics, movement building, and private charity, Ms. Sivalingan has a wealth of expertise with policy concerns. Her prior positions at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation included policy and advocacy support for the portfolios of nutrition, agricultural development, and climate adaptation.

4. Ms. Sivalingan has experience working on congressional campaigns in Ohio’s third district and has also worked with the Centre for Policy Research on land rights and policy efforts in India.

5. She is now facing disciplinary action after being barred from Princeton due to her pro-Palestine demonstrations.
