Drinks Made with 100,000-Year-Old Ice From Greenland’s Glacier Are Now Available at Dubai’s Exclusive Bars

Visitors to Dubai’s pubs and restaurants may now savor their preferred beverage with an ice cube that dates back 100,000 years! A Greenland-based firm called Arctic Ice gathers ice that has broken off the glaciers and exports it to the United Arab Emirates, where it is served at upscale restaurants.

The firm was founded in 2022 and sent its first 20 metric tons of ice lately. On the company’s Instagram profile, a video says, “This ice that has calved into the ocean from the ice sheet was only intended to dissolve in the sea. However, these folks from Arctic Ice had this brilliant notion to ship the ice to Dubai when it was still frozen.” In the video, Malik V. Rasmussen, one of the founders of Arctic Ice, claims that this is “the purest ice you will ever taste.”
“Arctic Ice is sourced directly from the Arctic’s natural glaciers, which have been frozen for more than 100,000 years,” reads the company’s website. These ice sheet sections have not come into touch with any soils or been exposed to contaminants that result from human activity. Arctic Ice so has the purest water on Earth.”

What Is So Unique About This Old Ice?
It’s customary practice in Greenland to use glacial ice in beverages, and throughout the years, a number of companies have made fruitless attempts to export it, according to The Guardian. The ice has been squeezed over millions of years, according to Malik V. Rasmussen, and it melts more slowly than ordinary ice. Also, compared to the frozen mineral water often used to make Dubai’s ice cubes, it is purer.

Encouraging Global Warming Or Being Environmentally Friendly?
The business is under harsh criticism for transporting old glacier ice for human consumption after extracting it. “Shouldn’t you be worrying about the effects of global warming rather than selling glacier water?” several social media commenters said. and “What is this dystopia?”

However, the business claims that their ice is safe for the environment. They search for ice that has cracked off glaciers and has not come into touch with the glacier’s surface.

The businessman from Greenland thinks this concept will further the region’s financial independence and economic development. “Fishing and tourism are the main sources of income in Greenland,” Rasmussen said. “For a long time, I have wanted to find something else that we can profit from.”
