Elon Musk to Meet with Families of Freed Hostages and Israel President Herzog

Monday’s meeting between Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Elon Musk would focus on “the need to act to combat rising anti-Semitism online,” the politician’s office said on Sunday.

Since taking over X, then known as Twitter, Musk, the owner of the company, has faced criticism for what some claim is an increase in hate speech on the platform.

Additionally, after promoting a conspiracy theory that purportedly accused Jews of attempting to destabilize white majorities, the White House accused him of engaging in the “abhorrent promotion” of anti-Semitism.

“Representatives of families of hostages held by Hamas, who will speak about the horrors of the Hamas terror attack on October 7, and of the ongoing pain and uncertainty for those held captive,” according to Herzog’s office, will be attending the conference.

According to Herzog’s office, “the President will emphasize in their meeting the need to act to combat rising antisemitism online.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu encouraged Musk to develop “the ability to stop not only anti-Semitism, or rolling it back as best you can, but any collective hatred” in September in an effort to counter anti-Semitism on X.

Musk, the wealthiest man on the planet, said that he was “generally against attacking any group, no matter who it is,” even if his website could not censor all hate speech before it was uploaded.

X Corp is suing Media Matters, a nonprofit, claiming that by depicting the website as being filled with anti-Semitic material, it has scared away advertisers.

In addition, Musk has vowed to sue the Anti-Defamation League, citing allegations that since completing his $44 billion buyout, the amount of offensive and racist speech on the platform has increased.
