Five Chinese were murdered in a suicide bombing in the KP of Pakistan

In today’s suicide attack in the Pakistani region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, five Chinese nationals lost their lives. The suicide bomber crashed an explosive-laden car into a Chinese engineer convoy that was travelling from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu.

Employees of the construction company, China Gezhouba Group Company, which was working on the Dasu hydropower project, were in the convoy that was ambushed. Nine Chinese nationals were among the 13 people murdered in a bus explosion in 2021, which led to the targeting of the same company.

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari denounced the incident and said, “Friendship between China and Pakistan will never be harmed by forces hostile to Pakistan.” He sent his sympathies to the five Chinese nationals’ families. All CPEC projects in Pakistan, as well as non-CPEC projects involving Chinese workers, have security.

Armed insurgents ambushed a caravan of Chinese engineers in the province of Balochistan in August 2023. In May 2021, a suicide bomber dressed in a burqa attacked a minibus transporting employees of Karachi University’s China-built Confucius Institute, killing four people, including three Chinese nationals.
