Flights are diverted due to explosions near Isfahan, Iran; an official from the US confirms Israel’s “retaliation”

Iran stopped flights at a number of locations, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz airports, after the country’s missile strike on Israel a few days ago. The reason for the suspension was initially unknown, but explosions were reported close to the airport in the country’s capital city of Isfahan.

Citing an Iranian official, Press TV, the official Iranian media, is claiming that departure flights from several Iranian airports have been canceled.

This missile assault on Iran is thought to be an Israeli strike on Iran’s embassy in Syria, according to an ABC News report. There is conjecture that Israel launched the operation in retaliation for Iran’s recent missile and drone assaults.

The event occurs at a time when Middle Eastern tensions are still high after Iran’s devastating missile and drone strikes on Israel. Emirates and FlyDubai, airlines headquartered in Dubai, started making diversionary routes across western Iran around 4:30 a.m. local time. Although local advisories to pilots indicated that the airspace could have been blocked, they provided no reason.

There were reports of explosions above Isfahan near its international airport by the semiofficial Fars news agency. It provided no justification. Still, Isfahan is home to the Iranian military’s main airfield and locations related to its nuclear program. Iranian state television acknowledged a loud boom near Isfahan with a scrolling notice on air, but did not immediately provide any details.

Notably, Isfahan is home to a number of significant establishments, including bases and locations for military R&D, and is regarded as strategically significant for Iran.

Iran sent hundreds of drones and missiles into Syria over the weekend in retaliation for what it believed to be an Israeli assault on its embassy complex.

Before they entered Israeli land, the majority of the drones and missiles were shot down.

The Middle East is at a “moment of maximum peril,” the UN secretary-general warned, while Iran urged the UN Security Council on Thursday that Israel “must be compelled to stop any further military adventurism against our interests.”
