Greece denies Ukraine access to air defense equipment, according to the prime minister

ATHENS: In response to calls from NATO and EU partners for further military help to Kyiv, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that Greece is unable to provide air defense systems such as “Patriots” or S-300 to Ukraine.
EU states are under pressure to provide Kyiv with additional defensive systems, particularly those that are already in place in nations like Greece and Spain, as a result of Russia’s increased airstrikes on the country.

In an interview with Skai TV late on Thursday, Mitsotakis said, “Greece is not going to send the S-300 or Patriot to Ukraine.”
Ministers from the European Union said on Monday that they were investigating ways to provide Ukraine with more air defenses immediately, but they did not make any firm promises about the Patriot systems, which Kyiv regards most.

According to Mitsotakis, these devices are “critical to our deterrent capability.” “We were asked and we explained why we could not do it,” he said.
Given the tensions with Turkey, defense is a highly delicate topic for Athens, particularly for a conservative administration.
Thousands of rockets, explosives, IVF vehicles, high-explosive incendiaries, ammunition, and anti-tank missiles have been delivered by Greece to Ukraine in the past.
A virtual summit of foreign assistance donors to Ukraine will be hosted by the US on Friday. This comes just days after Congress broke through a six-month impasse to approve a $61 billion aid package for the country.
