Indian-Origin Man Killed by US Police After Being Wanted for Assault

A 42-year-old man of Indian descent was shot and killed by police in San Antonio after he ran over two policemen with his car as they were attempting to arrest him in relation to a case of aggravated assault.
On April 21, after being fired at by police officer Tyler Turner, Sachin Sahoo was declared dead at the scene.

Mr. Sahoo was born and raised in Uttar Pradesh. He could have been a naturalized US citizen, according to sources.

A preliminary investigation indicates that on April 21, shortly before 6:30 p.m., police were called to a residence in San Antonio’s Cheviot Heights in reference to an allegation of an aggravated assault using a deadly weapon, the San Antonio Police Department said in a statement to PTI.

Officers discovered a 51-year-old woman who had been deliberately hit by a car when they arrived.

Mr. Sahoo, the suspect, had left the scene. In serious condition, the victim was sent to a nearby hospital. In connection with the event, San Antonio Police Detectives issued a felony arrest warrant for Mr. Sahoo.

After a few hours, neighbors notified the police that Mr. Sahoo had gone back to his previous place. When the police came, they tried to speak with him, but he hit two of them with his car. Mr. Sahoo was hit by an officer’s bullet and “pronounced deceased on scene.” While the other police received on-the-spot medical attention, the injured cop was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. The event did not hurt any other people. According to the authorities, this inquiry is still underway.

Police Chief Bill McManus said that Mr. Sahoo had run his roommate over with his car. The woman’s health was serious and she was having many procedures.

A few police officers went to Mr. Sahoo’s known address on April 21 in an attempt to locate and apprehend him after the police issued an arrest warrant for him. “After being located, he leaped into his vehicle. He was able to get past the police officers who were blocking him with their cars as he backed out of his driveway.Mr. Sahoo struck the cops with his car. “The other officer that was with him fired to stop him and struck him,” said McManus.

He claimed that, in order to gather further information, the police had not yet seen the bodycam tape.

Leah Goldstein, Mr. Sahoo’s ex-wife, was cited in a Kens5.com story as suggesting that Mr. Sahoo had a bipolar illness diagnosis.

According to Goldstein, “he suffered with bipolar disorder for the past ten years.” “He also had symptoms of schizophrenia.” “He was unable to comprehend the reason behind his problems,” she said in the news article. “He would detect sounds. and have hallucinations, merely hear voices, and get buried in his own thoughts.” Mr. Sahoo was called an excellent father by Goldstein.

“I was a stay-at-home mom for many years,” she said. “He provided for us.”
