Iraq’s public mobilization forces have been damaged by an airstrike, according to reports

An enormous explosion struck the command post of the Iraqi security force, the Popular Mobilization Forces, late on Friday night at the Kalso military camp, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Baghdad. Two security sources said that the explosion was caused by an airstrike.

Six PMF fighters were wounded and one fighter was killed, according to two sources at a hospital in the neighboring city of Hilla.

In a statement, PMF said, “The blast has caused material damage and injuries,” and it added that a team was looking into it.

According to the two security sources, the identity of the perpetrator of the airstrike remained unknown. There hasn’t been any US military action in Iraq, according to a US official.

According to reports, Israel launched a strike on Iranian territory on Friday, after days of Iran bombarding Israel with missiles and drones.

The PMF began as an alliance of armed groups, many of whom had links to Iran, and was subsequently acknowledged by Iraqi government as an official security organization.

During Israel’s Gaza conflict, factions within the PMF engaged in months-long rocket and drone strikes against American soldiers stationed in Iraq; but, since early February, the attacks have ceased.
