Israel frees thirty Palestinian inmates; total number of released prisoners is 240

The Israeli prison officials said that thirty Palestinian inmates were released throughout the night on Thursday, marking the most recent exchange under a prolonged ceasefire agreement that was set to finish in a few hours.

A few hours after the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas rescued eight Israeli captives, the prisoners—23 kids and seven women among them—were let free.

Every day, at least ten Israeli captives must be freed alive, according to the terms of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

However, a source close to Hamas told AFP that the eight Israelis who were released on Thursday were compensated for by the release of two Russian-Israeli women on Wednesday and ten others.

Qatar, the mediator, seemed to support the computation.

The peace accord, which went into effect on November 24, has released 110 captives, including 80 Israelis.

Thirty non-Israeli prisoners were liberated, most of them from Thailand under a different deal.

In return, Israel has released 240 Palestinian detainees.
