Media: Dutch Princess Amalia Relocated to Spain to Avoid Threats

As Dutch Crown Princess Amalia was getting ready to make her formal appearance at a state event later on Wednesday, she reportedly escaped to Spain to avoid threats to her safety, according to local media.

The 20-year-old spent more than a year living and attending school in Madrid, according to royal sources cited by national broadcaster NOS.

Only a few weeks after enrolling at Amsterdam University to study politics, psychology, law, and economics, Amalia was compelled to forgo her intentions to live in dorms due to security concerns in October 2022.

When the heir to the Dutch monarch began her studies, photographers snapped her grinning, making much of the fact that she would be living in dorms.

However, the royal couple then claimed that their daughter was compelled to return to The Hague’s highly guarded castle.

She is unable to reside in Amsterdam and is unable to leave the palace. At the moment, a tearful Queen Maxima said, “It has enormous consequences on her life.”

Although officials would not confirm specifics, the action was taken weeks after it was reported that organized criminal organizations had brought up Amalia and Prime Minister Mark Rutte in conversations, raising concerns about possible kidnappings.

Although Amalia’s danger had not entirely abated, according to NOS, she was once again permitted to live and study in the Netherlands because to unidentified “measures.”

It is said that she now resides in Amsterdam.

Amalia will participate formally in the two-day state visit by the Spanish royal family on Wednesday.
