Pakistan Elections 2024: According to Pakistan-based Geo News, nomination papers for the 48 open Senate seats in Pakistan will be scrutinised on March 19 as the Senate elections get closer. The Election Commission of Pakistan said that the polls will take place on April 2 and that the updated list of candidates will be released on March 29. By March 27, 2024, the candidates will have the option to withdraw their candidature documents.

Remarkably, the Pakistani Election Commission has declared that the country’s upper house elections would take place on April 2, 2024. The National Assembly members in Islamabad would choose senators from among one general seat and one seat reserved for technocrats, including ulema, according to a report by Geo News. Seven general seats, two women’s seats, two technocrat seats (including one for non-Muslims from both Punjab and Sindh provinces) and two seats for Ulema from each province will be chosen by members of the four provincial legislatures.

Nomination papers for seven female candidates have been submitted for the two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reserved seats for women. The Balochistan Election Commission has released the preliminary list of candidates for the province’s open Senate seats in Pakistan, according to the report published by Geo News.

In the meanwhile, the preliminary list of contenders for the province’s open Senate seats in Pakistan was made public by the Balochistan Election Commission. A spokesman for the Balochistan Election Commission said that 38 candidates’ nomination papers for the province’s 11 Senate seats in Pakistan had been approved.

There are seven open seats in the general category, two reserved for technocrats, and two reserved for women. According to a spokeswoman for the Balochistan Election Commission, 17 candidates’ nomination papers for seven Senate general seats were approved, as reported by Geo News. The spokesman said that eight candidates’ nomination papers were accepted for two seats in the women’s category, while the nomination papers of thirteen candidates were accepted for two technocrat seats.

Geo News stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) released the final slate of candidates earlier on Friday for the April 2 Senate elections. Details indicate that the names of Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Irfan Saleem, Khurram Zeeshan, and Azhar Mashwani from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Senate general seats were approved by the imprisoned PTI founder, according to a report by Geo News. According to Geo News, PTI’s candidates for the Senate technocrat seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are Azam Swati and Irshad Hussain, while Ayesha Banu and Rubina Naz are running for the Senate reserved seats. Imran Khan has given the go-ahead for Zulfi Bukhari and Hamid Khan to run as PTI candidates for general seats in Punjab. Sanam Javed, the head of the PTI, will run for the party’s seat in Punjab designated for women, and Yasmin Rashid for technocrats.
