Punjab province in Pakistan appoints its first Sikh minister

President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Ramesh Singh Arora, was sworn in as the first Sikh minister in the Punjab province of Pakistan on Wednesday, marking the Sikh history since partition.
One of the seventeen ministers to take the oath of office in the government headed by Maryam Nawaz was Arora, a member of the provincial parliament on a PML-N ticket and a native of Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of the first Sikh teacher, Guru Nanak Dev.

After taking his oath, the three-time MPA informed TOI that he may be given responsibility for minority issues and human rights. He said that protecting the Pakistani minority’s rights and allowing them to live honorable lives would be his first priority as a minister.
