Seven Houthi missiles aimed at the Red Sea are downed by US forces

NEW DELHI: The Houthi rebels were getting ready to fire seven mobile anti-ship cruise missiles on Red Sea targets when the US military announced on Friday that it had successfully destroyed them.

The Houthi group’s continued attack on Red Sea vessels is shown by this. Notwithstanding earlier American and British bombings meant to weaken the Houthi group’s capabilities, the assaults have intensified over the last several months.
Three one-way attack drones were intercepted by US Marines on Friday in the Red Sea close to commercial ships. In the previous day’s operations, two anti-ship cruise missiles and four Houthi drones were targeted by US troops. These weapons were getting ready to be launched from Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen into the Red Sea, according to information released by CENTCOM.

At first, the Houthi group justified its assaults on Red Sea vessels, which started in November, by claiming that they were supporting the Palestinians in Gaza. They said they were going for Israeli-affiliated boats. The Houthis then declared that American and British interests were legitimate targets, and the situation worsened as a result of US and UK troops striking the rebel Houthis.

When the strikes started, regional tensions over Israel’s war in Gaza were at an all-time high due to an extraordinary onslaught by Hamas on October 7. This has stoked unrest across the Middle East and contributed to a rise in bloodshed in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, and other countries supported by Iran.
